Lost Dentures in Hospital? We Can Help
Fast-track denture replacement for hospital patients who have lost their dentures — across Leeds & Yorkshire
A Common Hospital Problem
Lost dentures are one of the most frequently reported problems for hospital inpatients, particularly elderly patients. Dentures get wrapped in tissues and thrown away, left on food trays that are cleared, tucked into bed linen that goes to laundry, or simply mislaid when patients are moved between wards. The impact on patients is significant — without their dentures, they can’t eat properly, their nutrition suffers, they lose confidence, and their recovery is compromised.
Our fast-track denture replacement service is specifically designed for hospital patients. We take impressions at the bedside and arrange priority laboratory manufacture to get new dentures to the patient as quickly as possible.
Our Fast-Track Process
Day 1 — Assessment & impressions: We visit the ward, assess the patient’s mouth, and take dental impressions at the bedside. We also record the bite registration and select appropriate tooth shades and shapes.
Day 7-10 — Try-in: We return with a wax try-in so the patient can see how the dentures will look and we can check the fit and bite before final manufacture.
Day 14-17 — Fitting: The finished dentures are fitted and adjusted for comfort. We provide aftercare instructions to the patient and ward staff.
The entire process typically takes 2-3 weeks with our priority lab service — significantly faster than the standard pathway. For patients approaching discharge, we can coordinate completion at their home or care home.

Preventing Lost Dentures
We strongly recommend that all dentures are named — either with labels or with the patient’s name embedded into the denture material. This dramatically reduces the chances of dentures being lost or mixed up. We can arrange naming for both new and existing dentures.
For ward staff, we suggest always having a labelled denture pot at the patient’s bedside, checking for dentures before clearing food trays, ensuring dentures are accounted for during bed changes, and documenting denture status in the patient’s notes on admission.
Coordination with Care Homes
If the patient is being discharged to a care home before their new dentures are complete, we can seamlessly continue the process at the care home. We serve care homes across Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, and Yorkshire — see our care home denture services for more information.
