A loose or fallen crown is one of the most common dental emergencies we see, especially among older patients in Leeds. When the cement holding a crown or veneer in place weakens, it can come loose during eating or even fall out completely.

If your crown or veneer has come off, keep it safe and clean. Do not try to glue it back in place yourself — over-the-counter adhesives can damage both the crown and the underlying tooth.

Our clinician will visit your home, check the crown and the tooth underneath for any damage, clean both surfaces thoroughly, and recement the crown using professional dental cement. The whole procedure typically takes around 30 minutes and restores the appearance and protection of your tooth immediately.

What to Do While You Wait

If you are in pain before your appointment, here are some steps that may help:

Take over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (follow the packet instructions). Rinse gently with warm salt water if you have a sore mouth or swelling. If a crown or filling has come out, keep it safe in a clean container. Avoid very hot or cold food and drinks on the affected side. If you have significant swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing, seek urgent medical attention at A&E as these could indicate a spreading infection.
